Check these first
- Publisher: the source should identify who made the file and connect to the intended app. Compare the identities.
- Format: confirm whether you have a standalone APK or a package set. An XAPK or APKS file is not the same as a single APK.
- Device: check Android version in Settings → About phone. Match it to the package’s published minimum requirement.
- Storage: installation may need temporary space beyond the download size. Check the storage page on your phone.
- Existing installation: record the current version and how your progress is saved. Do not remove it just to make an unfamiliar update work.
General standalone APK installation flow
- Download only after checking the intended source. Wait until the browser indicates the transfer is complete; an incomplete file can fail to parse.
- Open your device’s Downloads or Files app and locate the exact file. Check the extension and filename; a name alone is not proof of identity.
- If Android asks about installing apps from this source, read the prompt. Only permit the particular source you intend to use after the file identity is established. Managed devices or additional protections may restrict this.
- Review Android’s installer and any security warnings. Do not disable Play Protect or work around a block to force installation. If the device refuses the file, stop and consult verified publisher or device support.
- After a successful installation, review permission requests in context. Revoke the install-from-this-source permission if you no longer need it. Launch only when you are satisfied about the publisher and game model.
Permissions are a separate decision
Installing a file and granting its runtime permissions are different actions. A permission request should have a clear purpose for the feature you choose. Be cautious if an unfamiliar app asks for SMS access, accessibility control, device administration or access to unrelated personal files.
Do not enter an OTP, payment PIN or identity document because a download page says it is needed. This website has no registration requirement. A request made by a third-party app is governed by that app’s operator and deserves its own review.
If the download is not a standalone APK
Split packages distribute parts of an app separately. A base APK on its own may not contain everything the app needs. Renaming an archive will not convert it into a usable package. Use the intended publisher’s supported distribution method, and avoid adding an unfamiliar installer just to open an unexplained file.
If you cannot confirm the format or your device’s compatibility, do not guess a minimum Android version from a same-name listing. Use the installation troubleshooting guide.
Installation questions
Should I turn off Play Protect?
No. Treat a warning as a reason to stop and investigate. An instruction to turn it off is not a verification result.
Will installing an APK preserve my progress?
This depends on the app and whether you are updating the same package through a compatible signing path. Local data may be lost if you uninstall or clear storage. Read the update checklist first.
Format or device questions?
Compare APK, XAPK and APKS when the download format differs from a standalone APK. Use the device and storage checklist when Android reports a compatibility or space problem.
